CHARACTER: CANON SECTION
NAME: Kaden
AGE: It's never explicitly stated and is hard to determine as Kitsune have long life spans, but he is at least an adult.
CANON: Fire Emblem: Fates (Revelation route)

CANON HISTORY: Here!
CANON PERSONALITY:

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Kitsune Form: Utilizing a Beaststone, Kaden is able to transform into his full fox form, which is roughly the same size as a mounted unit's horse.

Agility: Kaden is naturally agile, and in battle has a high ability to dodge attacks. He's able to dodge in and out of battle with ease, delivering attacks without suffering damage. The counter to this is that his defense isn't all that great, so while he can avoid getting hit most of the time, if he does get hit, it usually hurts.

Heightened Senses: As a kitsune, his senses are much sharper than a human. In his support with Setsuna, he has been shown to be able to pick out ground traps and trip wires that she couldn't see, could smell that some berries had been recently handled by human hands, and could see that there was poison on them to boot. Understandably, his sense of hearing would be similarly sharp.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Kaden McShanagh
AU AGE: 22
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: Kaden looks like a human! No kitsune ears or tail, though he will regain both of these eventually. He also has a smattering of light freckles, mostly centered on his cheeks and across his nose. Other than that, he pretty much looks the same as canon.

AU HISTORY: Kaden is an only child, born into a rather large and sprawling family on an equally large and sprawling cattle ranch out in the countryside. The ranch belonged to his grandparents, but due to their increasing age and declining health, his mother, father, aunts and uncles all lived on the property and helped out with tasks that his grandparents could no longer do. The ranch was very successful, and as a result the entire family was fairly well off. Despite this, they lived simply, growing their own fruits and vegetables and only buying what they couldn't make themselves and what was necessary for life on a farm. (Eventually, the children of the ranch (and a couple of adults that had sided with them) sweet-talked the rest of the family into getting a computer and satellite internet.)

Though he had no siblings, Kaden was not left wanting for company, as his various aunts and uncles provided him with many, many cousins to play with. Out of all of them, he was the oldest, and had a sort of easy-to-follow personality to boot - often when he was very young, he could be found leading a throng of small children into running wild through the woods or climbing trees to see who could climb the highest. Despite running and playing and having a good time, however, he knew that as the oldest, he was responsible for watching out for his younger cousins and making sure they didn't hurt themselves or get lost. The hayloft in the barn became a sort of clubhouse, and when he was alone, it became one of Kaden's favorite napping places.

Chores were one of Kaden's other favorite activities, particularly when he wasn't expected to do them. Surprising the adults with hard work earned praise, and he quickly became addicted, zipping in to help with laundry or offering to wash dishes after dinner just to get more and more. This spilled over into the rest of his life as well, taking pride in how clean he could keep his clothes despite running around in the woods all afternoon, or how tidy he kept his room, or how neatly he could organize the pantry. Everything he did, he did to the best of his ability, and all of the adults seemed to sing about how reliable he was growing up to be. This heaping of praise upon Kaden unfortunately caused somewhat of a rift between him and one particularly jealous cousin, but Kaden still carried on as if each of his cousins was his best friend in the whole world, which ended up unintentionally killing the problem with kindness fairly quickly.

As the local schools were so far away and they needed all the help they could get on the ranch, Kaden's family decided to homeschool their children. Kaden didn't seem to care too much for studies despite the obvious chance for more praise, preferring to earn praise by keeping himself and his personal space clean and tidy and by helping others, and partially because of the latter his school work tended to suffer. He knew the material - he was sharp and eager to learn - but he was much more eager to set his own assignments aside and help out the few cousins that were frustrating themselves to tears over the material. However, this wasn't to earn praise, but simply because he couldn't stand to see someone else suffer.

Over the years, Kaden grew to find that he had a particular way with animals. He was an easy person to trust, his mother said, and perhaps they could sense that in him. When any of the livestock were having some sort of difficulty, his father or his uncles would bring him in to soothe the creature while they took care of the problem, and more than once he came back from the forest with a lost cat or an injured bird that he'd felt sorry for, caring for them and mending any injuries he could manage. Seeing talent in him, his grandmother cultivated this interest in the care of animals with books and experience, and as Kaden finished his schooling at home, his next path became clear: he wanted to be a veterinarian.

Well-off as the family was, sending Kaden off to college was no particularly difficult task, although his uncles lamented the loss of their own personal cattle whisperer. After looking around at various places, Kaden immediately became enamored with the city of Recollé, never having been to such a large and lively place before. With his family's blessing, he moved off to Recollé with the intention of enrolling into Recollé University and starting a grand new life for himself.

And then promptly became distracted by big city life and missed enrolling for the fall semester.

It wasn't a big deal, as he knew he could enroll again for the spring semester, probably. Settling in to a new life in a big city wasn't easy, but exploring every day helped him become much more acclimated to his new surroundings. Roaming led him to discover plenty of cool places, including an animal shelter, where he ended up volunteering. Unfortunately, while awaiting spring enrollment, one thing led to another, and he ended up meeting some very nice people in town that helped him out while gaining his footing. Repaying favors was the right and honest thing to do, of course, but repaying the favor inevitably led to meeting more nice people and having more favors to repay - the university campus was full of nice people, really, and it quickly became his go-to hangout spot when he had nothing better to do - and in no time Kaden realized that he had entirely missed enrolling for spring semester, too. By about two months. But he had fun people to hang out with, and a fun job working with animals. What more did he really need?

AU PERSONALITY: Kaden's AU personality isn't really much different than his canon personality. The biggest difference here is that Kaden is growing up in a human world rather than a Kitsune village, so he is much more knowledgeable about things like technologies and advancements and whatnot. He may have been homeschooled and thus still a bit isolated, but the important part is that he was schooled at all, and that's a lot more educated than he probably was in canon. In Recollé, he's a lot more book smart than street smart, simply from not having spent who knows how long roaming the human world like he did in canon. However, he's always learning about new things, so he's still a bit gullible.
